“Warszawski Lutosławski” is a sophisticated encounter of the classics and entertainment, of noble sounds and modernity. This enconter takes listeners on an extraordinary journey to “those years” – retro songs like a time machine take into the atmosphere of dance parties and afternoon “fives”, so popular in the 50s and 60s.
“It should be remembered that the lyricists, who at that time were provided with scores of “Derwid” melodies, were outstanding men of words. The craftsmanship and ease of writing can be heard! But the times in which these songs were written also matter: The stories reflect the spirit of the 1950s and 1960s. It was a time of Poland’s development, the capital was flourishing anew, life was returning to normality. People were happy about simple, ordinary things. This is what these songs are about….” – the Artists point out.
Caravana Banda draw from their roots by recreating some of the polish melodies, as well as from the Czech Moravia region. They also include traditional melodies from Romania, Albania, Macedonia, and Serbia. You will not miss the Spanish accent since the first band’s language is ESPAÑOL. The band juggles styles, rhythms, melodies, and languages. It is a real musical spectacle for all the senses. And then there is Magda Navarrete’s voice and dance. On the one hand she sings velvet boleros, on the other piercing flamenco notes, she can display many different voices.

The album “Warszawski Lutosławski”
“The unique character, nobility, looseness, spontaneity and, what is important, dignity and, to be honest, great respect for the songs make it something to listen to and be proud of. This is our history of post-war song, the achievement of our culture (…)”
Arkadiusz Kalucki / WARTO POSLUCHAC – RADIO AUDITION / Poland
Agora / 2015
Magda Navarrete and Piotr Steczek, fascinated by the works of Witold Lutosławski, decided to give new life to the composer’s forgotten songs. Having studied the rich archives of the Polish Radio, the artists decided to present ten compositions by “Derwid”, which in the 50s and 60s accompanied Poles not only in music cafes and concert halls but also were presented on the radio. The songs of “Derwid” were sung by outstanding Polish artists: Sława Przybylska, Mieczysław Fogg and Irena Santor. This time Piotr Steczek wrote arrangements for string quintet and orchestra, and Magda Navarrete interpreted them giving them her “retro latin” swing.
“The production, reminiscent of the 50s and 60s, with violins, cellos and violas leading the way, created unforgettable melodies with lyrics about love and the joy of everyday things, down-to-earth and yet very profound. A real pearl!” – announces the publisher.
The premiere of the album “Warszawski Lutosławski” took place in Warsaw at the Syrena Theater on March 7, 2015.

The concert was called a performance because it has a theatrical feel to it. The artists created the figure of a radio announcer who leads the audience through the concert as if it were a radio programme. Thanks to the creation of such a unique atmosphere the audience surrenders vividly to the mood of the songs
